In this work, the artist is exploring and drawing inspiration from the Brothers Grimm's tales. Discovering that Hansel & Gretel might not be as straightforward as a black-and-white story, the artist invites readers to delve into the background of the tale by examining the "black death" and "great famine" eras, during which Northern Europe faced famine, setting the narrative stage. The two black penguin children symbolize the subsequent emergence of the black death.
The Brothers Grimm had their own agenda during the witch trials (from the Catholic or Protestant perspective), accusing those deemed witches, aligning with imperialist projects. Women considered different or holding valuable land were accused of witchcraft.
In contemplation, the artist prompts thought about whether Hansel and Gretel were actually assisted by the "witch." Could it be that, due to Hansel's jealousy of excessive affection, Gretel, also envious, incited and killed their mother?
